Learning About Education Teacher Blogs

The things I learned in the blogs that I read are classroom management tips for blended learning, how to talk to students about mental health, and tips for middle school learners. The biggest thing I learned when reading all these blogs was how much information you can learn in one spot, such as the different blogs people post. Instead of having to go to different websites to find the answers you were looking for.

What I learned from classroom management tips for blended learners was, allowing students to use devices for online checklists. This allows the students to be able to customs the checklist (through colours, shapes, and pictures) this allows the students to be more excited when doing larger tasks. Clear guidelines are something I also learned about because this allows the students to understand what they need to complete for assignments. Last was student feedback, this allows the teacher to understand what they can do to improve how the kids are either learning or understanding what the teacher is teaching. It also allows them to see if other types of assignments may suit the student better (hands-on projects vs. an essay)

Talking to students about mental health can be a hard subject to teach them about because of the level of understanding. The tip I learned was to create an open and safe place, this allows students to feel more comfortable coming to when there might be a problem in the classroom, or the student is just having a bad day. Promote self-refection this allows students to break down how they are actually feeling and be more open to themself about their true feelings compared to how people tell them they should feel. Talk as a class on how they can support each other and how they can all grow together, doing this allows students to feel more comfortable being around other people and talking about how they are feeling.

Teaching middle school tips can be helpful for new teachers because I've learned from my practicum that middle school can be tough. Building a team culture, allows students to feel like they are one class not separate people. Being open and honest can help the students understand that you are in charge and that they need to listen to you to show respect. Being reflective can help the students understand what they need to be doing, and be able to complete assignments on time. Having a clear vision of how you want the end goal of your class to look like, can also be how you want the students to complete assignments.

The three bloggers that stood out to me were Tom Sherrington, Monica Burns, and Stefany Zagorov. Tom has lots of different types of blogs that can help you with classroom management, expectations in the classroom, and how to properly indicate to students that you are in charge and they need to respect you. Monica has amazing blogs that vary from classroom management to tips to help with different learning and classroom responsibilities. Stefany Zagorov's blogs have a lot to do with kids' mental health and how you can help teach and understand the different types of mental health a student can be struggling with.

Hi Kaite,
I loved the focus on your personal growth and learning! Mental health and blended learning are some of the topics at the forefront of education talks and I liked hearing your personal thoughts on the topics! More classroom management knowledge is always great too learn strategies especially with the use of digital technologies in the classroom, your focus on student feedback was insightful, hearing from the students themselves on what types of assessment suite them best is a great way to give students voice in the classroom!

Thank you for a great read and have a great day!

Hi Katie,
This was an excellent read. I really enjoyed how you touched on talking about mental health and how to create a safe environment. That is a significant aspect that is seen at higher rates now than ever. Promoting self-reflection is a great aspect to teach in schools! Good luck in your education journey!
Thanks!
